Full Dentures
Full Dentures
With full dentures, a flesh-colored acrylic base fits over your gums. The base of the upper denture covers the palate (the roof of your mouth), while that of the lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue. Dentures are custom-made in our facility (Art Dental Lab) from impressions taken of your mouth. There are two types of full dentures in dentistry:
1. Conventional Full Denture: A conventional full denture is placed in your mouth after any remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed. Healing may take several months, during which time you are without teeth.
2. Immediate Full Denture: An immediate full denture is inserted immediately after the remaining teeth are removed. (Your dentist takes measurements and makes models of your jaw during a prior visit.) While immediate dentures offer the benefit of never having to be without your teeth, they must be relined several months after being inserted. The reason is that the bone supporting the teeth reshapes as it heals, causing the denture to become loose.

Full Denture Steps Between Doctors and Art Dental Lab
- Clinician takes preliminary full arch upper and lower impressions and full arch bite registration.
- Art Dental Lab receives the case and pour the model accordingly. Lab technicians then fabricate custom tray and send the case back to clinician.
- Clinician will take impression(s) with custom tray and send it back to Art Dental Lab.
- Art Dental Lab receives the case and fabricate master cast and record base/wax rim. Our lab then send the case back to clinician for a wax rim try-in.
- Clinician will confirm fit and contour wax rim for lip support, future incisal edge position, occlusion plane, occlusion vertical dimension, and midline. Record facebow (*if applicable) and bite registration. Clinician returns all case items to Art Dental Lab.
- Art Dental Lab receives the case and fabricate full denture setup. Our lab technician will evaluate for accuracy of mounting, occlusal vertical dimension, and esthetics. Our lab then send the case back to clinician for a full denture setup try-in.
- Clinician will confirm lab's proposed setup try-in and discuss with the patient. After setup try-in, clinician returns all case items to Art Dental Lab.
- Art Dental Lab receives the case and proceed to finish. If clinician thinks that there should be modifications done, there will be another try-in for verification purposes.
- Clinician receives the case and check with the patient. If the patient approves the overall quality of the denture, the patient goes home with mouth-full of teeth :)
